What is an adaptogen?

noun

  1. (in herbal medicine) a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress.

Adaptogens are a range of herbs and mushrooms that have the unique feature of helping to increase one’s resilience to physical or mental stress, with the potential to increase energy levels and boost overall well-being.

While each adaptogenic herb or mushroom has its own unique benefits and qualities – some being more calming, others more stimulating – they all share the distinctive feature of helping to normalise physical and mental balance.

I add my signature adaptogenic blend into my Dandelion + Adaptogens “Coffee” Alternative and Decaf Energy Coffee as a natural energy-boosting caffeine substitute.

Pat’s Apothecary adaptogen blends also include powdered adaptogenic herbs like maca, cordyceps mushroom, astragalus, shatavari, eleuthero (Siberian Ginseng), liquorice and ashwagandha.

My herbal teas – Sleep, Anti-Flam, Calm-Mind, Digest-Detox, Energy, Antioxidant, Immune and Mood Boost – include a range of super-herbs, blended for a specific taste and function, as well as at least one adaptogenic herb.
