FAQs

What’s the difference between your 8-Shrooms and the extract concentrates in the jars?
The 8-Shrooms is a 1:1 extract superfood powder (1kg whole mushrooms = 1kg mushroom powder). It contains the whole mushroom, including fibre from the cell wall, which has been broken down through steam sterilisation, making the active compounds more bioavailable.

The extracts in the jars are concentrated medicinal supplements, with much of the cell wall removed to concentrate the medicinally active compounds. I don’t list the exact concentration ratio of my extracts, as this doesn’t always correlate with the potency of the product or active compounds within (i.e., a quality 6:1 extract may be more potent than a well-marketed but inferior quality 10:1 extract).

Are your mushrooms certified organic and quality tested?
Yes, Pat’s Apothecary mushrooms are sourced from a certified organic supplier to US, EU & AU markets, established for over three decades. They also have internationally recognised food safety certifications HACCP and FSSC 2000, including testing for contaminates and heavy metals.

Where are your mushrooms grown?
Pat’s Apothecary medicinal mushrooms are grown in pristine regions of China, in the provinces where they have traditionally been grown (Di Tao) and used as superfoods and medicines for centuries.

My Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Tremella, Cordyceps, Shiitake and Maitake are cultivated in quality-controlled greenhouses in their native Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, grown on hardwood chips and rice bran or rice powder. My Chaga and Turkey Tail mushrooms are grown in the wild and harvested from the Heilongjiang forest and Daxing’angling mountains.

My supplier holds internationally recognised HACCP Food Safety Certification and USA Food Foundation Certification (FFSC), with annual audits.

Note! Mushroom supplements grown in Australia or the US are uniformly less potent, more expensive and often diluted with grain and mycelium. While there are species of Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Turkey Tail grown in Australia, these are NOT the species used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or studied scientifically.

Are your mushroom powders and Dandelion + Adaptogens Coffee safe to have while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Mushrooms are a food and generally very safe, but always check with your health practitioner before using. Adaptogenic herbs may not be suitable, therefore the dandelion coffee alternative is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Do your mushrooms contain mycelium, grain or other fillers?
No, they are 100% fruiting body!

What is the best time of day to consume medicinal mushrooms?
Anytime according to individual preference and response. I take Lion’s Mane in the morning with coffee, Cordyceps mid-afternoon and Reishi in the evening, or mix all 3!
